These canvas pillows use a combination of hand and machine embroidery. The centers are machine embroidered and the lines surrounding them are hand embroidered by women artisans in West Bengal using the kantha technique. Traditionally, a kantha is a light blanket made using old fabrics, softened from continuous wear that are sewn together with a simple running stitch or decorated with geometric patterns, which are a variation on a combination of triangles.
