Q: We read that Olive Yew was started from a little advice from your mother and grandmother. How has that advice been incorporated into your work today?
My mother and grandmother have both said that since we were a petite bunch, simple, small jewelry worked best on us. I tried to heed their advice, but found it difficult to find such pieces, so I decided to make my own. Just like that, Olive Yew was born! Now I design pieces I could see myself, my mother, and my grandmother wearing.
Q: How does your jewelry line influence your personal style and vice versa?
My own personal style is very simple and understated. I don’t wear very much jewelry, but when I do, I like to keep it simple. I think this aesthetic absolutely transfers into the Olive Yew jewelry line and vice versa. When I hear from our customers that this minimalist approach is exactly what they have been looking for, I know I’m on the right path.
Q: What is your favorite piece and why?
I’d have to say the lowercase letter charms. They’re very whimsical and I based the design of the alphabet around our logo with slight alterations to each letter. They’re so much fun to make and wear!
